Top tips for new beginnings
As we notice the days getting longer, flowers starting to bloom, and glimpses of the sun how do you feel? I feel invigorated, optimistic, and ready to take on the world. With Easter just a few short weeks away, and signs of new life all around in our animals and plants I am reminded that spring is a time for new beginnings. My top tips for making your own new beginnings are:
Harness the power of excitement
The expectation of a better time of year, warmer weather and longer days of sunlight bring an air of expectation of what can be done and how much time you have to do it. So, harness this expectation and turn it into excitement, this will act as a power pack to propel you forward to achieve your goals and dreams.
Do it now!
There is no time like the present to get started, remember that presents when given are a gift and you have been gifted with the time and excitement to get it done. How often do we promise ourselves that we will finish that job, go shopping, meet up with a friend and then weeks later we realise that we haven’t achieved these things. Your goals and dreams are important and deserve your full attention, so stop procrastinating and just do it.
Create new goals
Take time out for yourself and dream big, what would you like to have achieved when Autumn is approaching? What will you be seeing, hearing, and feeling when you have achieved what you set out too? The time to start is now, so take a piece of blank paper and write down everything you have wanted to do or achieve and haven’t got around too, then prioritise the list and pick your top goals. By working on these goals you will form new habits that will help you to keep moving forward and achieving more.
Say yes to new opportunities
Once you have written your goals and dreams you will be alert to ways of achieving them. Opportunities will present themselves and you need to be ready to take full advantage of them as they occur. This is the time to put your fears and doubts to one side and embrace the opportunity, what have you got to lose? I would say there is nothing to lose, if it doesn’t work out then you will have learnt something about yourself and your goal. Trying new things will help you decide what it is that you really want.
Have the wisdom to let go of the past that is negative and holding you back
When we set ourselves new resolutions, we fully intend to make changes, so what is that hold you back from seeing this through? For me it is memories from the past that are negative and make me feel that I failed or wasn’t good at something. However I have decided to see that event in a negative light, and I have the power to change it. By reframing a negative experience into one where I learnt something about myself and my skills I can move forward without fear of the outcome. Why not give it a try and see what happens, you will be surprised.
Surround yourself with Good positive people
Have you experienced a time when you were full of excitement, you told a friend or colleague about it and WOW they poured cold water on your idea. “You’ll never do that” “Have you really got the time?” or they just laugh. Suddenly your excitement evaporates, and you are no longer motivated. How would you feel if you received responses like, “Great idea” “Awesome you will be amazing” or “how can I help you?” Now you are even more excited and motivated, so surround yourself with like-minded people who recognise your talents and abilities. How much will you achieve now?
Engage a Coach
By working with a coach, you will have a partner who believes in your ability to succeed, who can raise your awareness of your strengths and who can help you be creative and achieve your goals. Your coach will help you bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be, quicker than if you do it alone. They will be your biggest cheerleader and will be the first holding the champagne to celebrate and say well done.
